nanoshawn's Journal No update this afternoon. I need to leave work early and take a nap. BASIC STATS: NaNo ID: On the boards, I'm baskil. On LJ, of course, I'm NaNo since: I heard about it last year, but I heard about it mid-November. So I've been waiting for a while now. Working title: How to Fail WIP Genre: Literary Fiction Projected word count: 60K, because I'm a masochist like that. AT THE START: DO YOU... Have an Outline? Sure don't. Scene-by-scene? Not even close. Know how it starts? I have an idea. A good one, in my opinion. Know how it ends? Sort of. Have your climax in order? Sort of. Know your main characters yet? One of them, yes. Have a particular tone in mind? Yes. First person. Plan to Draw on your own experiences? Oh hell yes. IS YOUR WORK GOING TO BE: Funny? when appropriate Serious? Yes Sad? Sort of Semi-Autobiographical? Very Based on another story? No. Influenced by any authors/current publications? Many. Salinger, of course. There are others that I will be drawing from. HOW HAVE MUCH YOU PLANNED? HAVE YOU USED: A paper journal? nope Pens? nope Multicolored pens? no A computer? yes Index cards? no Lists? no Bulleted lists?no Plot Charts? no Character Charts? no Character formulas? no Favorite writing resource: dictionary.com and my launch station ODDS AND ENDS A line you would like to use: "I had to jump. It was the only sane thing to do." A scene you would like to include: Fencing match A concept you would like to explore: The idea of rebirth A cliche you would like to avoid: If I use the word phoney, shoot me. A character you would like to use: The brilliant punk junkie neighbor. FORWARD THINKING Do you expect to be able to complete it? I think so, but even if I don't finish it in November, I will finish it. I need to finish something. Do you intend to complete it? Yes. I intend to very much. Would you ever try to publish it? Depends on how it turns out. What do you expect to get out of this month of frantic writing? A sense of accomplishment, and another thing I can scratch off my list.
